22nd Memorial Ceremony of Shahjahan Jamzadeh Held in Yazd

The 22nd memorial ceremony for the late Shahjahan Jamzadeh was held at Bozorgchami Hall in Yazd. As part of the event, commemorative gifts were presented to the two top-ranking Zoroastrian students of Yazd in the national entrance exam.

The ceremony opened with Avesta recitations led by Mobed Behrouz Najmizadeh, who then shared the biography of Shahjahan Jamzadeh with the attendees.

Born in 1918 (Ordibehesht 1297) in the Dasturan neighborhood of Yazd, Shahjahan Jamzadeh was the son of Fereydoun Jam Pirouzan and Lal Keikhosrow. He was the father of six children: Kavous, Ardeshir, Bahman, Esfandiar, Sarvar, and Gohar.

Having lost his father at a young age, his upbringing was overseen by the late Kavous Jam Parandeh. Jamzadeh completed his early education at Dinyari, Markar, and Keikhosravi schools with distinction. Alongside academic excellence, he had a strong interest in sports, earning first place in both football and track and field competitions.

Through dedication and perseverance, he went on to graduate from the University of Tehran’s Faculty of Medicine, excelling particularly in laboratory work and earning the admiration of his professors. He completed his military service at the Abbasabad Army Clinic before beginning his medical career at the Oil Company Hospital in Ahvaz and other cities in Khuzestan

After completing his military service, Shahjahan Jamzadeh began a new chapter of life when he married Homa Khosravi, daughter of Khodamorad and Mehrbanoo Khodarahm, on Sepandarmarz Day in Khordad 1325 (June 1946) in Yazd. Their marriage was blessed with five children — Paryoush, Lal, Mehrnaz, Tabandeh, and Fereydoun — all of whom went on to pursue higher education and earn university degrees.

Jamzadeh served as a physician in several cities of Khuzestan, including Ahvaz, Abadan, and Masjed Soleyman, treating patients at Oil Company facilities. Following the nationalization of Iran’s oil industry, he was appointed as the head of the National Oil Company Clinic in Tehran.

Mobed Behrouz Najmizadeh noted that the couple shared 57 years together until Jamzadeh passed away on Manthra Sepand Day in Amordad 1382 (August 2003). To honor his memory, with the efforts of Rostam Yeganegi and Sohrab Firouzfar, his family established the tradition of recognizing top-ranking Zoroastrian students in the national entrance exam, ensuring it would remain a lasting source of encouragement for Zoroastrian youth.

The ceremony also featured remarks by Kourosh Rashidi, head of the Zoroastrian Association of Yazd. He began by paying tribute to the late Shahjahan Jamzadeh and went on to speak about key factors in the advancement of society, identifying knowledge as the most important factor.

He also highlighted the importance of social connection and generosity, stressing their vital role in the progress of any community. Another key factor, he noted, was honoring the legacy of past generations: “As we look to the future, we must also learn from those who came before us.”

In closing, Kourosh Rostami announced that the Jamzadeh family had made a donation the Zoroastrian Association of Yazd, part of which is to provide for purchase of annual awards for top students, ensuring that the tradition of honoring excellence continues through the year 2039.

The program’s host, Mehrdad Khosroviani, then invited Rashidi, along with Gohar Parandeh, representing the Jamzadeh family, to present commemorative gifts to two outstanding Zoroastrian students from Yazd who excelled in the national entrance exam.

This year’s honorees were Pardis Vakhshour, a business management student at the University of Tehran, and Saman Nikzad, a materials and metallurgy engineering student at the University of Yazd. The ceremony concluded with refreshments for the guests.

The 22nd memorial ceremony of Dr. Shahjahan Jamzadeh, organized by the Zoroastrian Association of Yazd, took place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 (25 Amordad 1404), at 5:00 p.m. in Bozorgchami Hall, featuring Avesta recitations by Mobed Behrouz Najmizadeh and the presentation of awards to top students.
