The Museum of Ancient Iran Hosts Achaemenid Tablets Returned from America

An exhibition of Achaemenid-era tablets is now on display at the Museum of Ancient Iran, featuring 30 out of 1,100 tablets that were recently returned from the United States. The exhibit, unveiled in the presence of President Masoud Pezeshkian on Mehr 17, 1403 (October 8, 2024), includes mythological floral seals without inscriptions, inviting visitors to experience a piece of ancient Iranian heritage.

The exhibition will be open to the public until Aban 30.

This collection is part of a larger group of nearly 30,000 Achaemenid cuneiform tablets, discovered by the Department of Archeology at the University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute during excavation of Persepolis in Esfand 1311 (March 1932).  In 1314 (1935) under an agreement with the Iranian government, these items were entrusted to the Oriental Institute for translation and research. Since then, the return of these invaluable artifacts to Iran has continued in phases.
