In Persian dictionaries Mehr is known as the God of love and wisdom in spiritual and divine deeds, which is associated with the month of Mehr (the seventh month of the solar year) and the day of Mehr (the 16th day of the month). Mehr, who is called Mithra in the Avesta, is one of the great deities before Zoroaster.  Mehr is known as the God of light and brightness. Mehr is the God of love, affection and friendship, the wisdom to find wealth and realize one’s wishes. In another version, Mehr is the name of the sun.

Mehr Izad overlooks the deeds of the two sides in a dispute.  Wherever there is a dispute Mehr Izad is present to implement justice, strengthen friendship and commitment, and oath.

Mehr is one of the most prominent gods in the Zoroastrian religion. He is one of the three deities whose name is mentioned in the twelve months of the year. One of the longest Yashts is dedicated to Mehr Yasht.
