Iran and Tajikistan have jointly submitted a resolution to UNESCO to recognize the Cyrus Cylinder as a global symbol of human rights.
The proposal was presented at the 12th Interregional Meeting of Secretaries-General of National Commissions for UNESCO in Samarkand, which convened Secretaries-General and representatives from national commissions around the world.
Hassan Fartousi, Secretary-General of Iran’s National Commission for UNESCO, called on participants to support the joint resolution, highlighting the significance of recognizing the Cyrus Cylinder as a “global emblem of early human rights and respect for cultural diversity.”
He noted that the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran would jointly submit the resolution to the ongoing UNESCO General Conference, aiming to formally acknowledge the Cyrus Charter as a historical symbol of human rights and cultural respect.
The resolution is expected to be adopted during the General Conference with the backing of UNESCO member states.
