Khodabakhsh Rostami, originally from Yazd and now living in Tehran, is participating in the Janbakhtegan’ Cup table tennis competition this year for the first time in two decades—prompted by his son’s insistence.
Before the matches began, I had the opportunity to talk with him.
How many times have you taken part in the Janbakhtegan’ Cup?
It’s been a long time since I last played. This year marks my return after about twenty years, thanks to my son Radmehr Rostami’s encouragement. I did participate in the past as well.
Did you achieve any titles during your previous participation?
Yes, most of my accolades were with the basketball team. This year is my debut in table tennis.
What’s your impression of this year’s Janbakhtegan’ Cup?
I think it’s going well. I also appreciate that all matches start on time, which is great.
Do you stay in the dormitory?
No, I don’t stay in the dormitory, but I’ve heard from those who do that the facilities have improved. New mattresses and pillows were provided for this tournament’s dormitory residents.
Has your son participated in table tennis?
No, my son has been competing in chess for the past three years and has consistently earned top positions. Radmehr Rostami, my son, has won first place in chess so far.
Any final thoughts?
I don’t have much to add, except to express my gratitude to all the children at the center. They really put in a lot of effort and have done an excellent job this year.
