The second Shushtar Kite and Wind Catcher Festival was held on Friday, 10th of Esfand 1403 (March 1, 2025), aimed at reviving traditional local games and encouraging non-violent play for the younger generation, while fostering excitement and joy among families to welcome spring.
The festival took place at the outdoor grounds of Salsal Castle, drawing a large crowd of Shushtar residents and tourists from across the country. Traditional songs and rituals were performed, offering a glimpse into the cultural heritage of Shushtar.
Participants of all ages, particularly children, joined in the festive spirit by flying their handcrafted kites in a lively atmosphere, embracing the traditional wind catcher game that has been passed down through generations. Alongside the kite-flying activities, booths were set up to showcase and sell handicrafts from local artisans.
At the conclusion of the festival, prizes were awarded to participants whose kites stood out for their beauty, craftsmanship, and adherence to traditional techniques, as viewed from the sky.
It’s important to note that the wind catcher game, which has been a staple in Shushtar for years, involves creating handmade kites from basic materials like papier mache and branches from palm trees or river reeds.
