Esfandegan Celebration at the Zoroastrian Center of San Diego

The Esfandegan Festival took place at the Zoroastrian Center of San Diego, organized by the ZAAC-SD Adult Group.

The event began on Saturday, February 15, 2025 (27th of Bahman 1403) with the presentation of heart-shaped chocolates to the women attendees. Following this, participants took part in an English language class taught by Shirin Kam Bastani. Nastaran and Arian Banki then led a yoga session, bringing energy and excitement to the crowd.

Zhila Gheibi delivered a speech on the rich history of Iran and Zoroastrianism, as well as the significance of Esfandegan and honoring Zoroastrian women. After the speech, members of the San Diego Board of Directors expressed their appreciation to those who had supported the group in recent years by presenting Farvahar statues. The festivities continued with games of backgammon and bingo, and the celebration concluded with the birthday party for members born during the month. Guests were treated to tea, sweets, and a hot meal.

In the Zoroastrian 30-day calendar, the fifth day of each month is dedicated to Spenta Armaiti (or Spandarmad), the guardian of Earth. Zoroastrians celebrate Esfandegan on the 29th of Bahman in the official Persian calendar, as they do with other monthly festivals. This day is also known as Zoroastrian Women and Virtuous Mother’s Day. The term Spenta Armaiti symbolizes humility and patience.
