Bahar Bahrami, an eighth-grade Zoroastrian student, delivered an outstanding performance in the Naqqali and Shahnameh recitation competition for schools in Yazd’s District 2, earning her promotion to provincial level.
At the age of 13, Bahar —daughter of Khorshidchehr Goudarzi and Shahbahram Bahrami—has been self-training in Shahnameh recitation and naqqali (traditional Shahnameh recitation).
Following her success, Amordad spoke with her father, Shahbahram Bahrami, who shared more about her endeavors:
“Bahar was born in 2011. With a natural talent for poetry, she began studying the Shahnameh virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside her school lessons, when she was about 11 years old.”
What competitions has she participated in so far?
“Bahar has performed at various events, including the Sadeh Festival and school programs. This year, she took part in the school’s competition and performed exceptionally well in Yazd’s District 2. I hope that with continued practice, she will succeed in advance to the provincial level.”
Has she previously competed in similar events or won any awards?
“Bahar has had several performances, but this was her first formal competition. “When and where was the competition held, and what was her achievement?
“The competition was held about a month ago in Yazd’s District 2, though I don’t remember the exact date. The results, however, were announced yesterday (Monday, 29 Bahman 1403), and she was selected as a top performer at the district level.”
Who were her biggest supporters?
“Her mother and I encouraged her. Since she has a natural talent for memorizing poetry, she initially joined the classes as an experiment. But as her interest grew, she decided to pursue it seriously.”
Final remarks:
“Bahar is still in the early stages of her journey, and I hope she qualifies for the provincial round.”
Later, Shahbahram Bahrami informed Amordad that following a test held on 30 Bahman 1403, Bahar achieved second place at the provincial level.
