Omid Shahriari, a doctoral student, has been accepted into the prestigious AFC A-Level Football Coaching Program.
The selection process involved interviews with over 50 candidates from across Iran, with only 24 making the final cut. Shahriari was among the successful applicants. The evaluation criteria included proficiency in English, computer and software skills, coaching and playing experience in national leagues, physical fitness, and other qualifications.
Speaking to Amordad about the course and its prerequisites, Shahriari said: “The AFC A-Level Football Coaching Course, the highest and most advanced coaching certification in Iran, will take place in Bahman 1403 (February 2025). The interviews were conducted by Morteza Mohasses, a highly regarded football expert in Iran, and Mr. Mahmoudinia in Tehran.”
Omid Shahriari elaborated on the challenging prerequisites for joining the AFC A-Level Football Coaching Course. He explained: “To qualify, candidates must first complete the D, C, and B coaching courses, with mandatory gaps of several years between each level. Additionally, applicants must have a strong football background and prior coaching experience at the national level. In short, advanced coaching courses are not open to everyone, and success in the coaching interview is a crucial requirement.”
Speaking about Morteza Mohasses, Shahriari noted: “Morteza Mohasses is an accomplished Iranian football coach and analyst. He has served as an analyst for Iran’s national football team and was an assistant coach to German manager Roland Koch at Esteghlal Tehran Football Club during the 2002–2003 season.”
Shahriyari began his coaching job in 2011 and has since coached various teams, including the youth divisions of Mes Kerman Football Club.
