Commemorating Shahjahan Jamzadeh with Honors for Top Students

The 21st commemoration of the passing of the late Shahjahan Jamzadeh was marked by a ceremony honoring the top two students from last year’s university entrance exam.

The memorial ceremony took place at 5:00 PM on Mantrapand Day of the Zoroastrian calendar, Thursday, Amordad 25, 1403, in the Great Hall of Yazd. Mobed Behrouz Najmizadeh recited the Avesta. With the financial support of Dr. Jamzadeh’s children and in cooperation with the Yazd Zoroastrian Association, this annual event commemorates and recognizes a Zoroastrian boy and girl who achieved the highest ranks in the entrance exam. This year, alongside the memorial, the top achievers of the 1402 entrance exam, Bita Mali and Shayan Sheshbradran were honored.

The late Dr. Shahjahan Jamzadeh, a prominent benefactor of the Zoroastrian community, was a lifelong advocate for scholars and intellectuals. In recognition of the difficulties he faced in his own education, Dr. Jamzadeh entrusted a sum of money to the Yazd Zoroastrian Association. The income from this fund is annually awarded as a scholarship or recognition to Zoroastrian students who excel in their studies, bringing pride to the Zoroastrian community.

Dr. Shahjahan Jamzadeh, the youngest child of the late Fereydoun and Laal Keikhosrow, was born in Dey be Mehr and Ordibehesht 1297 (1918) in the Dastouran neighborhood of Yazd. The other children of Fereydoun and Laal are Kavous Ardeshir, Bahman Esfandiar, Sarwar, and Gohar. Dr. Jamzadeh lost his father at a young age, and the family was cared for by the late Kavous Jamparandeh.

Shahjahan Jamzadeh completed his early education at Dinyari Markar and Keikhosrawi primary schools, graduating with excellent marks. Alongside his academic diligence, he displayed a strong interest in sports, securing first place in football and athletics competitions. He pursued his studies with great effort and perseverance, ultimately earning a medical degree from Tehran University. He completed his military service at the army hospital in Abbas Abad Clinic and later worked at the Oil Company Hospital in various cities, including Ahvaz and Khuzestan.

After his military service, Dr. Jamzadeh began a new chapter in his life, marrying Homa Khosrawi, the daughter of God Murad and Mehrbanou Khodarahm, on Sepandarmazd Day in the month of Khordad, 1325 (1946), in Yazd. Their marriage lasted 57 years and was blessed with five children: Parivash, Laal, Mehrnaz, Tabandeh, and Fereydoun, all of whom pursued higher education and earned university degrees.

Dr. Jamzadeh dedicated his career to treating patients at the Oil Company in cities such as Khuzestan, Ahvaz, Abadan, and Masjed Suleiman. After the nationalization of the oil industry, he was appointed head of the Tehran National Oil Company Clinic. Following 33 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1356 (1977).
