Jahanabad Sorkheh fortress: smaller size Arg-e bam

There are many traces and signs of historical backgrounds of Iranian people in every corner of Iran, each of which will have many stories to tell.

But the strongholds have a different story; each of them has once been a place of rule or a complex and impenetrable fortress against the attack of enemies. Throughout their history, they have kept many people safe from the invasion of foreigners, and in a way, and social function stands out beyond all the other features.

Today, these fortresses have become an attractive and memorable travel destination in several cities in the country, but in Semnan province, they have been used less from this point of view.

The city of Sorkheh in Semnan province is located on a road stretching from east to west, which was constantly attacked by enemies in different periods of history. Therefore, people built various fortresses to protect themselves, like the “Jahanabad” fortress in the south of Sorkheh city.

The historical fortress “Jahanabad” is located in a village by the same name, south of sorkheh.  This fortress, with beautiful towers and ramparts and exceptional architecture of the desert area, was built with materials such as soil, mud, and clay and was used until three decades ago.

cultural heritage and tourism experts consider the Jahanabad Sorkheh fortress a smaller size Arg-e Bam and believe that this fortress is an unexplored masterpiece that should be protected from damage. In the past years, parts of this fortress have collapsed and been ruined by natural events such as heavy rains.”

Explorers and treasure hunters have also excavated the area of this fortress in the past years, and the officials believe that “this fortress deserves to be protected for tourists.”

Jahanabad Sorkheh historical fortress can be considered as one of the important structures for reconstruction: this historical fortress, with its inner structures, is an attractive historic site in Sorkheh, which is being destroyed due to indifference and negligence.

Abhar-ol-Olumi, the former Director General of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Semnan Province, considered this historical fort a down-sized Arg-e-Bam, which is an unexplored masterpiece. If reconstructed it will turn into a valuable attraction of semnan province and Sorkheh region for tourists.
