Public porseh (memorial service) on Ormozd day of the month of Tir, in Shiraz

The ceremony of Porseh in Ormazd and Tir Mah in memory of the recently deceased ‌ companions and martyrs of Iran was held in the Adorian Garden of the Zoroastrian religious, cultural, and sports complex of Shiraz, while observiing health codes.

the public porseh ceremony was held on Sunday, June 19, 2022, on Ormozd day of Tir, of the year 3760, Zoroastrian calendar, at 18:30 in the Adorian Garden of the Zoroastrian religious, cultural, and sports complex of Shiraz. Mobdiar Rostam Khosraviani performed the ceremony of Afaridegan Khani. The participants paid their respect to the memory of late Mobed Esfandiar, the only Zoroastrian who had died in the past year in Shiraz, and paid tribute to the fravahar of all the deceased Zoroastrians, and martyrs. At the end of this ceremony, Mobediar Khosraviani spoke about the word waqf (endowment) and its value, and the need to protect its importance among Zoroastrians.

The root of the word “porseh” is “pors” meaning “asking” and wanting to know about the conditions of the family of the deceased; it is a ceremony that is held with the effort of the survivors and the presence of relatives and friends, to honor the memory of the deceased. Zoroastrians hold two public Porseh every year. One is Ormazd and Tir (equal to 29 Khordad in the country’s official calendar), and the other is Ormazd and Esfandmah, which are held in memory of the fravahar of the dead, especially those who have died for Iran. Public porseh is attended by a greater number of Zoroastrians than private and family porseh. Porseh of the month of Tir is held to commemorate the souls of the soldiers who lost their lives to protect their homeland from the Turanians (Shahnameh). Zoroastrians especially remember the name of Arash Kamangir in this Porseh.
