Group sedreh pushi ceremony in Toronto

A group sedreh pushi ceremony for 5 teenagers was held at Dar-e Mehr Mehraban Guiv in Toronto.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Zoroastrian Association of Ontario and the Zoroastrian Cultural Center of Ontario, took place on Saturday, November 22, 2025 (equivalent to Saturday, 1 Āzar 1404 in the Persian calendar) in the spiritual setting of Dar-e Mehr Mehraban Guiv. Members of the Zoroastrian community gathered to witness the sacred Sedre Pushi ritual performed by Mobeds Kerman Katrak, Bahram Varjavand, Rashin Jahangiri, Kamran Pentaki, and Nowruz Antia.

The initiates receiving the Sedreh and Kusti during this ceremony were: Ariana Bastani, Parsa Bastani, Maya Zendian, Radmehr Sasani, and Hooman Fouladian.

Sedre Pushi is a key religious rite in Zoroastrian culture, marking the beginning of one’s journey of religious devotion and commitment to Ahura Mazda’s teachings. The ceremony, accompanied by prayers, Mobeds’ recitations, and the presence of family and community members, was conducted with great reverence and joy, enhancing its spiritual significance.

The Sedreh is a loose-fitting, white cotton garment with short sleeves and no collar, worn beneath other clothing as a constant reminder of purity and humility. The Kusti is a white woolen cord wrapped three times around the waist over the Sedreh.
