Students from the Zoroastrian religious classes of Yazd, in collaboration with the Yazd Religious Commission, marked the Abangan Festival with a vibrant ceremony.
The event was held on Thursday, 8 Aban 1404 (October 29, 2025) at the Markar Danesh Campus. The program opened with the recitation of the opening prayer and its translation by Mehrnegar Vakhsour and Ariana Kalantari-Fard, both from the 11th grade of Niayeshin. Mobed Dr. Mehrban Pouladi, head of the Mobeds Association, and Fereydoun Keshmiri, head of the Religious Commission, extended their greetings to the students and delivered speeches about the significance of Abangan. Rostam Pashoutanizadeh, Deputy of Secondary Education, and Mahshid Moradian, Deputy of Primary Education for Zoroastrian religious classes, also addressed the attendees.
The festival featured a series of artistic performances that added to its celebratory atmosphere: Benita Dehnavi and Raika Izad (8th grade “A”) performed on the daf, Homa Fardinpour (9th grade “A”) played the tonbak, Mehrnegar Vakhsour (11th grade) performed a Shahnameh reading, Ariana Kalantari-Fard (11th grade) recited the Abangan text, Nika Najmi (8th grade “B”) performed on the hang drum, and Aida Abadani (9th grade “A”) delivered a solo vocal performance.
The Yazd Religious Commission also hosted a reception for the students.
Abangan, celebrated on Aban day of the month of Aban in the Zoroastrian calendar (corresponding to 4 Aban in the national calendar), is a festival dedicated to honoring and venerating water.
