Valiasr: A Street of Colorful Stepped Alleys

Stretching 18 kilometers, Valiasr Street is recognized as the longest street in both Tehran and the Middle East. This historic thoroughfare begins in the southernmost part of Tehran and extends all the way to the city’s northern edge.

Once known as Pahlavi Street, Valiasr is home to lush parks, notable museums, bustling cafés, and streams shaded by plane trees—though, unfortunately, many of these trees have been lost over the years. Beyond its greenery and cultural landmarks, the street also offers unique attractions tied to its history.

Among these are series of stairways (eight in all) located within its side alleys. These stepped lanes, adorned with colorful and vibrant designs, begin just after Beheshti Street (formerly Abbasabad) and continue up to the Hemmat Expressway.

For generations, walking along Valiasr Street and its alleys has been a cherished pastime for the people of Tehran.
