Tehran Zoroastrian Mountaineers Reach Sarakchal Peak

The Tehran Zoroastrian Mountaineering Group successfully ascended Sarakchal Peak during a recent expedition.

According to the group’s report, five Zoroastrian climbers—Kamyar Servoshian, Sohrab Jamshidi, Mehrban Shamsi, and Abtin Azargashabi—along with guide and leader Sirous Mandegari, reached the 4,130-meter summit on Thursday, September 17, 2025. The climbing route passed through the village of Sepidestan, the Lajani Shelter, and finally Sarakchal Peak.

The expedition began at 5:00 a.m. from the parking area of Sepidestan village. Early in the day, weather conditions were cool with a gentle breeze, enhancing the mountain’s serene atmosphere.

The initial section of the trail featured a gentle incline along a clear path, which the team covered in approximately two hours. Closer to the shelter, the slope became steeper, demanding greater focus and physical effort. The team reached the Lajani Shelter at 7:00 a.m.—a well-maintained structure with fresh paint, clean facilities, and usable beds that allowed the climbers to rest briefly before continuing.

After a 10-minute break at Lajani Shelter, the team began the final ascent toward Sarakchal Peak. Despite the steep incline and strong winds at higher elevations, the climbers maintained excellent coordination and followed all safety protocols, reaching the summit at around 9:00 a.m. at an altitude of 4,130 meters. After having breakfast and taking commemorative photos, the team began their descent at 9:20 a.m.

By 10:10 a.m., the group returned to Lajani Shelter. After a short rest, they continued the trail back to Sepidestan village, concluding the expedition at the vehicle parking area at 11:45 a.m. The total distance covered during the hike was approximately 14 kilometers.

The expedition was completed successfully, without any accidents or injuries, and is recognized as one of the group’s well-organized and safe climbs of the year.
