The Persian language is one of the nine classical languages of India

In a significant move to deepen cultural relations, the Indian government has decided to include Persian as one of the nine classical languages of India in the new education policy, the Indian foreign minister said.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, on a two-day trip to Tehran, said this on Monday, Dey 25, 1402, in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amirabdollahian.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of India emphasized in this press conference that the recognition of the Persian language shows the commitment to fostering and understanding more about the rich heritage of Persian in the educational framework of India. Tamil was the first language in India to receive the title of classical language in 2004. Sanskrit, Kannada, Malayalam, and Odia are other languages declared as classical languages in India by the central government. He further said that now, in addition to these classical languages, their literary works should be preserved for future generations’ enjoyment and enrichment. He also said that our public relations have been a strength point for a long time. Iran and India, with their deep cultural, literary, and linguistic ties, create a unique foundation for increasing the exchange of tourists, students, artists, athletes, and scientists. The foreign ministers of Iran and India discussed how they can better connect their cultural and educational institutions.
