There is no shortage of surprising news, especially in our country’s cultural heritage field. But some events bring out a deep sigh from the lovers of culture and history and create a question mark for every listener. If the news circulating in some media and online networks is accurate, woe to Iran and its history and culture.
According to Etemad news, in the archeological museum of Rasht, a garbage bag was pulled over the edge of a terracotta jar dating back to the Medes era (a few centuries before the Achaemenid period). Cigarette butts and garbage were thrown into it.
This media added: The relevant official said, “If we put wooden or plastic trash cans, people will steal.”
In the continuation of this report, it is stated: “In one of the first showcases, which contains the skulls of the people of the 1st millennium BC (nearly three thousand years ago), a few incomplete and broken skulls are placed on a pile of dirt at a relatively low height without any protection. This showcase is without protective glass and evokes the perspective of an oven or an oven of an abandoned bakery.
After this incident, Hasan Meysami, the head of the Public Relations Center of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, wrote on his twitter about the news published by Etemad and the rumors about the ancient jar covered by a trash bag: “The jar does not belong to the Medes era; it is contemporary. The bag was put on it to prevent dirt from falling on it during restoration operation.”
IRNA also published a video titled: “Clarification about the jar in Rasht museum that made news”, in which Meysam Navanian, director of Gilan museum, explains about the news, “This jar is contemporary and it is not used as trash can. Rather, it is a surface protection to prevent garbage from being thrown into it.”
