Touraj Negahban, writer, translator, poet and songwriter, born in Ahvaz on April 26, 1932, created most enduring Iranian compositions. He should be considered as a main pillar of the palace of songs. He was a songwriter from a generation whose works were innovative in Iranian music and will live forever.
In his art life, besides movie songs, Touraj Negahban wrote more than 700 songs for the radio Organization along. He completed his primary education in Khorramshahr and his secondary education in Firooz Bahram High School, one of the Zoroastrian high schools in Tehran. He had a bachelor’s degree in Persian literature and a master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Tehran. While studying at the university, Neghaban worked as the Deputy Director of the Press Office at the General Directorate of Publications and Radio. From 1963 he worked at the Iranian HNDICRAFTS CENTER AND UNTIL 1958 SERVED AS adviser to the Minister for Industry and supervisor of publications and public relations of Iranian Handicrafts Organization. From 1974 until the revolution in Iran, he was editor in chief of a specialized magazine, “Dastavard”.
He also taught at the Qazvin Faculty of Social Sciences from 1977 to 1979 and was the licensee and managing director of the audio magazine; “Seda” (voice). His acquaintance with Homayoun Khorram, the famous violinist and composer, brought him into the field of songwriting. Thus, Naghban started composing songs in 1949 with the collaboration of Homayoun Khoram, Aminullah Rashidi, and Majid Vafadar. His first poems were broadcast on the radio with the voices of Mahmoud Karimi, Aminullah Rashidi, Manouchehr Homayounpour, and Dariush Rafiei, respectively. Negahban began working with the Golha Program in 1961 and became a regular contributor.
In addition to composing countless songs for many prominent Iranian pop singers, he also translated the lyrics of the songs of the famous movie; “The sound of music.” The lyrics of this film were translated into Persian and sung by Iranian opera singers for the movie.
One of the lasting works of translation and sound track belongs to the movie; “My fair lady”, which was dubbed into Persian in Tanin studio by Touraj Negahban. This work is considered one of the masterpieces of dubbing in Iran. The dubbing director of this movie was Ali Kasmaie, who received the award for best dubbing and voice by the producers of the movie.
After the revolution and the prevailing situation, his activities slowed down. In 1980 he director of Saba Studios for some time and founded the Karnamak advertising company. During those years his outstanding work was the [poem “O Iran”, the music composed by Mohammad sarir, and performed by Mohammad Nouri. Some odes (ghazal) and some long poems remain from him, from those years.
He loved his homeland and had extensive studies in mysticism and cultural behavior, which are evident in his works. He lived in Iran until May 1993, then moved to Los Angeles. After the revolution we have a few songs from him such as Sanama performed by Shakila, “The hymn of creation” and “Storms of events” sung by Dariush eghbali. Finally, on August 20, 2008, Touraj Neghaban, one of the great musicians of Iran, passed away at the age of 76 due to pneumonia and was buried in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood, California.
In Avesta, this word is Amortat, and in Persian, it is Amordad, so Amordad means immortality and strength or eternity. Thus the word “Mordad” has no place in Zoroastrian literature. In the Ghata, Yasna 51, verse 7, we read: The one reaches the seven categories, Ahuramazda, Ravan, benevolence, the best truth, spiritual Kingship, holy goal, accessibility and immaturity, immortality and goes on the path of truth, will be rewarded by the forgiveness of Ahuramazda’s two angles, rejoice of Khordad and immortality of Amordad.
