Engineer Tina Faramarzi and her team have developed and registered the Station Tools Surgical iTrack system, a technology designed to track and organize surgical instruments, thereby improving precision and efficiency in the operating room.
To gain deeper insight into this innovation, Amordad interviewed Engineer Tina Faramarzi. Below is the conversation:
Could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Tina Faramarzi. I was born in 2003 in Tehran and am a member of the Surginnomed team.
What is your academic background?
I hold a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering with a specialization in bioelectric.
Please tell us about your invention and how you managed to register it.
We are a group of four biomedical engineering students who came together about a year ago with the aim of driving positive change in medical equipment and technology. Through thorough research and investigation of medical errors and equipment shortcomings, we identified that, despite considerable progress in the medical field, surgical tools are still occasionally left inside patients during procedures. This issue inspired us to create an innovative device to prevent such critical medical errors.
The Station Tools Surgical iTrack is a portable, multifunctional workstation we developed that allows for sterile inspection and opening of surgical instrument packs, while also identifying, tracking, and organizing the surgical tools.
Together with my teammates—Negar Pourdana, Sajad Ghafran, and Alireza Baghban—we successfully filed a patent application for this invention through Iran’s Intellectual Property system and were officially granted patent certificates as inventors.
Our team also had the opportunity to showcase this project as an innovative idea at the 2025 Iranian FiraCup and RoboCup international robotics and AI competitions. We secured first place in the FiraCup Idea League, which qualified us to participate in the 2025 World Championships in South Korea. Additionally, we achieved second place in the RoboCup Idea League’s “Idea to Poster” competition.
Where was the device patented? Have you had any previous patents?
This is our very first invention, which we registered at the Intellectual Property Center of the Iranian Organization for Registration of Deeds and Properties.
Who motivated you throughout this journey?
My greatest source of motivation has been my family. After them, my friends and teammates have continuously encouraged me. From the very beginning of our teamwork, we all worked hard to improve both ourselves and our team, which served as a powerful source of inspiration. Additionally, our university professors guided and encouraged us, helping steer the team in the right direction toward achieving our goals.
Final remarks
I would like to sincerely thank my family for their steadfast support and my teammates, with whom I was able to achieve these successes. I’m grateful to be on this path and hopeful that I can make a meaningful impact in my field. I also want to thank the Amordad website for preparing this report.
