Hajij, Oramanat: the most winding road of Iran

In oramanat (Kermanshah and Kurdistan province) wherever we look we will find amazing nature. An example of those wonders is the village of Hajij and the road that starts from Paveh and reaches this steppe and charming village.

We are not exaggerating if we say that everywhere along the road between Paveh and Hajij we will encounter the most beautiful natural scenery. The road is 37 km, but it has so many curves that it often causes accidents, which, together with small and large rocks falling from the mountain, result in sad events. In the cold and rainy winter of Oramant, due to heavy snowfall, traffic on this road becomes impossible. This is why those who do not like to go on dangerous roads avoid going to Hajj in that cold winter season; however, winter in Oramanat and Hajij has its own beauty.

Hajij is a stepped village, and extremely beautiful. Its natural landscapes are rarely found elsewhere, and in every corner mountains and rivers meet to create master pieces. However, the difficulty of getting to this village becomes obvious when paving the road that starts from Paveh.  The road is narrow, and the steep slope of the mountain through which the road passes, as we have mentioned, creates landslides that make the journey dangerous. Everywhere on this road you can see lush gardens and experience a refreshing climate. In those gardens, there are many red pomegranates and large walnuts. Due to the mountainous nature of the road and the land, the orchards are made in steps. And so, they turn out to be much desirable for nature tourism. We have just come a short distance on the road from Paveh, and the difficult part of the road already shows up.

The risk of falling into the valley, or slipping in the rain and snow is always there. One of the tunnels built in the mountain on this road, is sometimes closed due to rockfalls, which add to the difficulty of this road. Therefore, Hajij road should be considered one of the most accident-prone roads in Iran. It takes a little over an hour to drive this road slowly and fragmentarily. Just 9 km after the road starts, the curves appear. You have to go through several tunnels and a valley at the bottom of which flows the Sirvan River, roaring and tumultuous. Many tourists prefer to enjoy the nature on the slopes instead of using the road and ending up with a dizzy head (due to the winding road), because everywhere along this road is full of eye catching scenery. Yes, traveling on that road is not meant for everyone, except those experienced drivers who are familiar with the difficulties of this road.

On one side of the road it is mountainous, snowy and cold, but on the other side it is a pleasant spring climate. Shahu Peak is more visible on this road. Shahu is a mountain northwest of Kermanshah and the south of Kurdistan province and is part of the Zagros Mountains. The nature on this mountain is simply spectacular.

However, those who choose to go through this difficult road to Hajij, are rewarded by getting a view of this incomparable village. Hajij is a village with semi-circular and cobbled streets, and its houses are spectacular with charming windows architecture. The village is unique. The houses are interpenetrated and the roof of each house is a passageway for the houses above it. This architecture has made Hajij into a very special place. It is obvious that the mountain slope has forced the people of Hajij to this style of architecture for their village. The village overlooks a deep valley and watching it is a memorable experience for every traveler and tourist. Let us remember that Hajij is 12000 years old.

The beauty of Hajij Road is more evident in spring and summer, and passing through it in the cold seasons of the year makes it difficult for tourists. This road is worth mentioning for those looking for exciting journeys and crossing challenging and spectacular routes!
