Setareh Shamardani: Zoroaster Pioneered the World’s First Religious Music

The Zoroastrian Women’s Organization hosted its inaugural monthly lecture on the influence of Iranian music on the body and soul.

As reported on the Zoroastrian Women’s Organization website, Setareh Shamardani, a consultant, psychologist, life skills coach, and senior laboratory sciences expert, gave a talk on the therapeutic effects of Iranian music on both the body and the soul.

The website provides a summary of Setareh Shamardani’s lecture, highlighting the impact of Iranian music on physical and mental well-being:

“Today, music therapy is used as a healing method in many advanced countries. The first music that every individual hears is the sound of their mother’s heartbeat. Zoroaster was the founder of the world’s first religious music.”

  2. Aids learning by preventing mental rumination.
  3. Beneficial for stress, anxiety, and pain relief.

Setareh Shamardani highlighted the effects of Iranian music, citing examples such as the use of the “Chahargah” mode to wake up and the “Shur” mode for relaxation.

The lecture began with recitation of “Avesta” by Morvarid (Fariba) Keiqobadi, at 10 AM on Monday, Azar 5, 1403 (November 25, 2024), in Khosrow Hall. Attendees enjoyed a joyful day listening to traditional songs accompanied by daf music, complementing the lecture’s theme, and they were able to experience the practical benefits of the talk.
