Despite being exhausted after the final basketball match against the Zoroastrian Youth Club, he stayed to talk with us about the team.

How long have you been leading the team?
“I’ve been organizing this team for two years. Along with five of our basketball players, we also took second place in the football competition at the Rostam Giv Cup. The adult Izadyar basketball team has consistently competed in the Janbakhtegan Cup, finishing second each time.”

Are all team members from Tehran?
“Most of them are from Tehran and Kerman.”

How did the team form? Do you all live in Tehran? Where do you train?
“Yes, all team members live in Tehran, mainly in the city center. Ideally, we would train at the Adrian Tehran Basketball Complex or Vesal Club, but Adrian is under renovation this year, and access to Farvahar Club was denied. At Kharasheh Hall, our training slot starts at 10:30 PM and can go until midnight or 1 AM. Traveling across the city for practice is tough, but we make it work.”

Do you practice every night?
“No, we train only twice a week.”

How did the idea to form the team come about?
“We used to be part of Farvahar Club, but for various reasons we left and decided to form our own team to play together.”

What achievements have you earned so far?
“Second place.”

How many times have you participated in the Cup?
“This is our second time as Team Izadyar, and both times we secured second place.”

How do you feel about the matches?
“The refereeing had some issues. It would be much better if the players themselves learned to referee instead of relying on outside referees.”

Were there any problems with the court this year?
“Thankfully, the court was fine. We are not professional players, so we didn’t have complaints.”

Closing Remarks:
“If possible, earlier time slots at Kharasheh Hall or Vesal Club for Zoroastrians would help a lot. I truly appreciate Ms. Babkan and Afshin Namiranian for providing the hall, but starting at 10:30 or 11 PM is very late. Most of us work or have military duties and need to wake up at 5 or 6 AM, which is challenging. An earlier slot would be ideal. Finally, I want to thank all members of Team Izadyar for their commitment and support.”

Pouya Boostanipour, leader of the Izadyar basketball team, has been managing the team for two years, earning second place in the Janbakhtegan Cup in both editions.
