In response to a call by Afshin Namiranian, head of the 45th round of the Zoroastrian Association of Tehran, a review meeting was held to discuss the association’s constitution. The meeting took place on Saturday, Shahrivar 9th, 1403 (August 31, 2024), in Iraj Hall, with a small group of fellow Zoroastrians in attendance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the meeting, participants expressed differing views on the proposed changes to the statutes. Some supported updating the constitution, citing the need for modernization, while others opposed the changes, each side presenting their arguments.<\/p>\n

As the speaker and host, Afshin Namiranian emphasized the necessity of updating certain items in the statutes. He presented the history of the constitution and pointed out that it was drafted in 1286 (1906), with subsequent revisions made in 1339 (1960), 1984, 1997 and 2016. Namiranian explained that after the 1979 revolution, the statutes were completely overhauled, resulting in a new version with 78 clauses, which was later reduced to 38 clauses by the Ministry of Interior, without the association’s seal. He highlighted the significant challenge posed by the inability to amend the constitution.<\/p>\n

Arastou Sotoudian opposed the changes, arguing that the current statute prevents undue influence. Other attendees suggested that only the weak points of the statute should be addressed and corrected.<\/p>\n
