The country’s most significant cultural event, with the title of the 34th Tehran International Book Fair, ended its work. Publishers of Barsam and Hiromba recounted their assessment of their 11-day participation in this cultural event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the purpose of providing original sources in the field of Iranology and introducing the ancient culture of Iran, publishers specialized in Zoroastrian texts were host to book readers and lovers of our ancestral religion and culture, for 11 days, at the book fair. Barsam Publishing House and Hiromba Publishing House hosted scholars of Iranian religion and culture independently but in the same book booth and shared space in the exhibition. Amordad website discussed the evaluation of the 34th Tehran Book Fair with the directors of Barsam and Hiromba, two specialized publishers of Zoroastrian texts.<\/p>\n

Barsam Publishing House, the second Zoroastrian publisher managed by Dinaz Dehnadi and active for more than a decade, has continuously participated in the book fair, and this year it was present in the physical space of the fair with 64 book titles, to which six new books were added this year, and also 59 book titles in the online sales system of the 34th book fair.<\/p>\n

The mosque is not a suitable place for holding exhibitions.<\/p>\n

In response to the question as to how did the 34th Tehran book fair go, Dinaz Dehnadi, director of Barsam publishers, replied that the exhibition’s location is the most challenging problem for us publishers. This place is not built for exhibitions, and access to its halls is a big challenge for visitors and organizers. However, in a poll, publishers were asked their opinion about the two venues: Aftab and Mosala. I think the tehran International Fair venue is more suitable and has an organized structure and convenient space for visitors and organizers.<\/p>\n

Another challenge is the slow speed of the internet, which hampers online sales.\u00a0 For issuing receipts and mail confirmation, there are major software problems. The disruption in the delivery of the card reader device and its connection to the tax department and publishers’ accounts caused problems. Some publishers did not have the card reader device for the first two days and failed to connect directly to their bank accounts.<\/p>\n

In the face-to-face sales section, the first three bestsellers are the Avesta Westergad book with the introduction translation of Dr. Fereydoun Fazilat, Zarathustra’s Battle with Ahriman by Dr. Maryam T. Qashqaei and Azandestan by Dr. Sima Fouladpour.<\/p>\n

In the online sales section, “The Science of Psychology among divine sages”, author: Dr. Gholamreza Rahmani, the issue of Chronology and the best leapfrogging method in Iranian Chronology, author: Dr. Musa Akrami, economics, and media management, translated by Dr. Omid Kajian and Mohammad Reza Dehghani Ashkzari.<\/p>\n

Hiromba, the third Zoroastrian publishers, under management of Behnam Mobarake, participated in the international book fair for the third time during its five-year operation. This year (1402), he reached the official statistics of the exhibition and participated in this big conference with 43 book titles, despite the many problems that was being faced regarding book printing and publishing. The 34th international book fair was Behnam’s Mobarake’s 13th experience regarding participation. He participated eleven times with Fravahar Publishing, and the last time before the start of the corona virus, in 2018. He participated in the fair jointly with Barsam, under management of Dinaz Dehnadi, under the name of “Hiromba Publishers”.<\/p>\n

We are still poor in reading culture and book-buying culture<\/p>\n

Behnam Mobarakeh, director of Hiromba Publishing House, told Amordad about the 34th Tehran book fairs always have problems and shortages. The experience of sixteen exhibitions has shown that it has never been able to provide 100% satisfaction, at least partial fulfillment of publishers. In recent years, the price of paper has become another problem for publishers. The result is the printing of books with the number of ten and twenty volumes and the book’s high price. People can’t bargain for chicken, meat, and rice, so they take revenge from books. Without knowing what the publisher is paying for and what other challenges, he faces after the sale. This means we still need help in the culture of reading books and buying books.<\/p>\n

When people enter the book fair, they do not know how to look for their favorite book. It is good that there are devices set up to help in searching for publishers and books. But the people are either unaware of this device or lack sufficient self-confidence in using it; they think they are dealing with a complicated operating system. The information bases sometimes make so many mistakes that the buyers lose their patience. Although they are not to blame; information that is incorrectly entered is the cause of these complaints. It would be so good if this information would be checked with publishers, before start of the exhibition, like for instance, which works belong to which publishers.<\/p>\n

The physical participation is this exhibition was not well received, and the coronavirus can no longer be used as an excuse. Maybe the high price of the books or other issues discourage the people from physical participation, as they would during previous years. However, the online exhibition was well received, contrary to my expectations, though the simultaneity of these two exhibitions takes a lot of energy from small publishers with little personnel.<\/p>\n

In the face-to-face sales section, the first four best-sellers are Woman in Zoroastrian Religion author: Dr. Katayoun Mazdapour, teaching Avesta Calligraphy by Behnam Mobarakeh and Aesthetics of Color in Ancient Iranian Ceremonies by Manizheh Makelirizi, Yazeshen how to perform Zoroastrian religious ceremonies.<\/p>\n

One of the good things that happened this year was the shared space with Barsam, which was proof of empathy, and also could together receive the visit of the lovers of Zoroastrian religion and the language and culture of ancient Iran.<\/p>\n
