Its foundation is also laid on ancient myths that continue to live in people’s minds and memories and show signs of their presence in this beautiful tradition. Unfortunately, there is concern that this ancient tradition of Ardebil will be forgotten, unless something drastic is done to keep it alive. This is the duty of all those who love the cultures of the people of Iran.

Givi, a city in Ardebil province, has a very pleasant ecosystem. It is divided into two parts: one part is called upper Givi and the other is called lower Givi. Tourists looking for Iran’s rarest ecological landscapes always remember to visit Givi and its breath-taking nature. Zanjir va Pir tradition is considered to be belonging specifically to Givi. In the not-too-distant past this day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy (as we mentioned: on the first Friday of the autumn season), and now with less attention! They consider the longevity of this ceremony to be thousands of years old and link it with myths.

In the heart of Zanjir va Pir religions, this point is hidden in a symbolic form that one should seek refuge in nature to keep one’s chastity, virtue and holiness away from the hands of time. It has also been considered a type of a ceremony for bringing luck for marriageable girls. Such behaviors performed along with some special ceremonies to open the fortune of marriageable girls who have yet not had the chance to get married; examples of such behaviors are seen all over Iran. That is why this ceremony is a happy occasion, accompanied with lots of joy. The story of Zanjer va Pir Givi of Ardabil in the narratives of its people is as follows: In the distant past, a girl sought refuge in nature to protect her virginity and asked God to make her into one of the elements of nature so that no one would touch her and stain her. Could you not sit on it? She wanted to turn into a stone or a bird. The people of Givi believe that the girl was turned into stone. The Zanjir va Pir celebration is held in memory of that chaste girl who turned into stone and thus protected the innocence and virginity of all human beings in her heart.

This ceremony should be held under a shady tree. In this way, the village women sit next to a leafy tree and cook soup or other food, such as broth, while they are busy singing happy songs and play the tambourine. At the same time, two children, one a girl and the other a boy, are dressed as bride and groom, and imagined as a symbol of the wedding of marriageable girls. They eat the food cooked by a group of women in the same spot where the festival is going on, and then sing and dance their way back home. Tying a piece of cloth to the old tree under which they are celebrating, is another part of the celebration. In this happy ceremony, the fabric is assumed to be “chain” and the tree “sage”. This ceremony continues for one day, from dawn to dusk. Sometimes a sheep is also sacrificed there.

Fortunately, the tradition of Zanjir va Pir was registered in the country’s intangible cultural heritage in 1400 AD.

Some Iranian customs are specifically for women and men do not participate in them. One of these female group traditions is “Zanjir va Pir” celebration; a festival left to us from very ancient folk tales.
