Yazd Named the World’s Capital of Traditional Jewelry

In a landmark achievement for Iran, the historic city of Yazd has been officially designated the “World Capital of Traditional Jewelry.” Surpassing tough international competition and earning the highest marks from the World Crafts Council jury, Yazd now holds a prestigious global title that reflects its rich artistic legacy.

A Celebration Beyond Borders

At a grand ceremony attended by the President of the World Crafts Council, international judges, government officials, and master artisans, Yazd was formally recognized for its excellence in handcrafted jewelry.

Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism, called it a “historic day” for Yazd. He noted that the city’s longstanding artistic tradition, combined with the dedication of its skilled craftspeople, allowed it to rise above other nominated cities from around the world. This honor not only celebrates craftsmanship—it showcases the cultural brilliance that has flourished from the deserts of Iran to the global stage.

Yazd: Where Earth, Fire, Gold, and the Iranian Soul Converge

Renowned for its centuries-old traditions in goldsmithing, filigree, gemstone crafting, and traditional jewelry, Yazd has long been a jewel among Iran’s artistic cities.
Each ring or necklace crafted in Yazd carries a story — one of devotion, resilience, and cultural roots that trace back to ancient Persia.

Now, this enduring art form has gained international acclaim, placing Yazd at the forefront of Iran’s cultural achievements on the global stage.

A Global Competition, an Iranian Triumph

As noted by the Minister of Cultural Heritage, the selection process for this global recognition was exceptionally thorough and competitive.
Cities from Asia, Europe, and beyond vied for the title, but Yazd, backed by its illustrious heritage and the exceptional talent of its artisans, emerged as the clear leader across all criteria.

This recognition is not just a victory for Yazd — it’s a source of pride for all Iranians, both at home and abroad.

From Desert Roots to Global Recognition

What began in the narrow alleys of Yazd’s old bazaars and modest workshops has now captivated the eyes of the world.
As the newly crowned World Capital of Traditional Jewelry, Yazd is poised to attract cultural tourists, art enthusiasts, and global investors.

To fulfill this role, the city will need to strengthen its infrastructure — turning this achievement into a bridge between heritage and innovation, entrepreneurship and cultural diplomacy, and offering the world a vibrant window into the soul of Iran.
