A ceremony to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. Mahbanoo Tata, the mother of statistics in Iran, was organized by Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman in collaboration with the university’s Statistics Association.
The event took place on the morning of Saturday, April 25, 2025 (6 Ordibehesht 1404), at the Mahani Conference Hall of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Shahid Bahonar University. During the ceremony, professors and friends of Dr. Mahbanoo Tata shared their memories of the renowned figure in Iranian statistics, and a video tribute to the late Dr. Tata was shown to the attendees.
The speakers at the event included Dr. Yaghoobi, Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Abbas Parchami, Chair of the Statistics Department, Dr. Mashallah Mashinchi, esteemed professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Dr. Irani, a close friend of Dr. Mahbanoo Tata, Dr. Bahrampour, Dr. Lashkari, Dr. Irani, Dr. Rafiyi, Farshid Dowlatzadeh, Chair of the Khodadad Mehrabi Charity Foundation, and Dr. Majidi, a friend and neighbor of Dr. Tata.
Dr. Mahbanoo Tata, known as the mother of Statistics in Iran, was born on April 26, 1942 (6 Ordibehesht 1321) in Mumbai, India. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in mathematics, she pursued a master’s degree in statistics at the University of Mumbai and later earned her Ph.D. in statistics from Purdue University in the United States. Dr. Tata served as a faculty member at Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman. In recognition of her significant contributions to the field, she was affectionately given the title of “Mother of Statistics in Iran.” She passed away on Amordad 15 1402 (August 6, 2023), at the age of 81 in Kerman.
