First Joint Nowruz Celebration by Iranian and Indian Zoroastrians in Perth, Australia

For the first time, Iranian and Indian Zoroastrians came together to celebrate Nowruz in Perth, Australia. The event was organized by the Zoroastrian Association of Western Australia (ZAWA).

Held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at The Rise Conference Centre in Maylands, the celebration aimed to foster unity between Iranian and Indian Zoroastrians by highlighting their culture, art, and cuisine. A traditional Haft-Seen table, arranged by Iranian Zoroastrians, was a key feature of the event, with Indian Zoroastrian children presenting each symbol of the Haft-Seen through songs and performances. Iranian Zoroastrians also performed the Gathas readings. Additionally, a handmade crafts exhibition was set up to showcase the community’s creativity.

The dinner was a joint effort, with Iranian Zoroastrians preparing dishes like Ash Reshteh and Sabzi Polo, while Indian Zoroastrians contributed other special foods. Guests enjoyed Iranian sweets and nuts as part of the celebration. The event created a true Nowruz experience for the Indian Zoroastrian community, with Iranian Zoroastrians offering explanations about the significance of the traditions.

This gathering, a collaboration between Zoroastrian communities from Iran and abroad, as well as the Iranian Zoroastrian Youth Network (IZYN), emphasized the cultural and social solidarity between Iranian and Indian Zoroastrians.
