Fatemeh Karimi, member of the Archaeological Committees of the Cultural Heritage Organization of Iran and member of the supreme scientific council of the Islamic Encyclopedia, passed away today, the 12th of Ordibehesht (May 2), at the age of 78.
Fateme Karimi was born in 1324 (1945) in Tehran and studied archeology. In addition to her membership in the archeological board of the Cultural Heritage Organization, in 1378 (1999) she headed the scientific excavations of Hassan Sabah Alamut For, in 1374 (1995) headed the excavation team at the ancient fortress of Bandar Hormoz, and from 1387 (2008) upto date, acted as director of the art and architecture department of Islamic Encyclopedia.
The late Karimi’s books and essays “An introduction to the art of making tiles in Iran”, “The art of pottery in the Islamic period in Iran”, “Golestan Khiyal”, and “An introduction to the knowledge of robat (Iranian musical instrument), are among her work.
