Yazd Zoroastrian Association Building

The building of the Yazd Zoroastrian Association is one of the historical buildings of Yazd province which was recently registered in the list of national structures of Iran.

The file of the historical and cultural building of Yazd Zoroastrian Association prepared by this association, after review by the National Historical Monuments Registration Committee of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, voted to register it in the list of national monuments of Iran. It was registered in the list of national monuments on Ordibehesht 19, 1401, as number 33741. Mohammad Reza Fallahati, the head of the Yazd Cultural Heritage Department, in an interview with Amordad, confirmed this news and stated: Among the works that have recently been included in the list of national monuments of the country is the historical building of the Zoroastrian Association of Yazd in Firetmple of Yazd. The age of this historical building goes back to the period of the first king of the Pahlavi dynasty.

Among the 13 historical monuments of Yazd province that were registered in the list of national monuments of the country in the first six months of 1401 from Yazd province (5 works in Yazd and the rest in Taft, Bafq, Bahabad, Abarkoh, Ashkzar, and Ardakan) can be found in the buildings such as the Zoroastrian Association, Moshiri House, Ardakan senior health care center, and a mausoleum in Al-Hazan of Bafq. Yazd province has 6 works registered in the world list of UNESCO. So far 1964 of its cultural and historical works have been registered in the list of national works of the country, in 4 areas: natural, movable, immovable, and intangible.

The administrative building of the Yazd Zoroastrian Association was the house of Fereydoon Zartoshti, one of the Zoroastrian philanthropists, who donated this house to the Zoroastrian Association of Yazd, for the use of the board of directors and administrative staff.  The building’s name is, as influenced by its present use, Yazd Zoroastrian Association. Before this building was handed over the Association, it was used by Jamshid Jamshidi as his residence, and also for holding Zoroastrian religious classes. The Zoroastrian Association of Yazd was founded in the year 1271 in a place called Key-Khosravi Hall in the neighborhood. In the past, Key-Khosravi Primary School was one of the oldest schools in Yazd. Key-Khosravi primary school was founded in 1268 with the generous donation of Keykhosrow Mehrabani.
