Following a series of harmful activities of a sand mine in the mountains in the vicinity of the ancient petroglyphs known as “Baram Delak”, several cultural heritage and tourism activists, cultural activists and journalists in the urban and social sphere of Shiraz city, launched a campaign to prevent explosions in the Baram Delak mountains and damage to the Sassanid petroglyph.
“Request to prevent explosions on Baram Delak Mountain”:
Dear Mr. Zarghami
Honorable Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts
Dear Mr. Fatemi Amin Honorable Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade
Dear Mr. Asnafi, Mayor of Shiraz
Greetings
Consecutive horrifying explosions in the sand mine in the mountains near the ancient petroglyphs known as Baram Delak have shaken the defenseless body of the Sassanid monuments in Shiraz, which have caused irreversible damage. We are actually witnessing creation of cracks and increasing destruction of these valuable paintings. We, the cultural heritage activists, call for the closure of the sand mine and quarry in the mountainous area of the ancient region of Boram Delak as soon as possible.
These explosions have brought concern to the people of this area. The terrifying sound of daily explosions in the sand mine have caused harassment to the people of Baram Delak area and surrounding villages. Some people, whose houses are located near MountBaram Delak, are very worried about small cracks that have appeared in the walls of their houses.
The purpose of this campaign, which the cultural heritage activists have initiated, is to ask the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, and the Ministry of Industries, and Shiraz municipality to protect the historical identity and shared heritage of all Iranians.
